ORAL NARRATIVES AND ORAL TRADITION

How Oral Narratives and Oral Tradition can give a new dimension to the writing of history, particularly social and political history, is discussed in this work. How confessions, depositions and interviews of people outside the purview of the official domain helped the colonial government while passing laws, setting up committees, have also been elucidated through examples. This work showcases how individually conducted interviews can challenge the main-stream analysis provided by sociologists, historians and psychologists thus creating a counter analysis of social and political history. The method and techniques of recording oral history have also been discussed.
