Revisiting Shaw:

George Bernard Shaw Looks at India

Gautam Sengupta

This book may be treated as a primer to Shaw studies vis-vis his interest in Indian religion, philosophy, politics and culture. Based on Shaw’s collection of and interest in books related to India and broadly to the Orient, it desires to act as pointer to that area where Shaw and Tagore meet, namely, the union of Oriental and Occidental cultures. It tries to provide the probable Indian backdrop to his constantly developing concept of Creative Evolution. Besides the broadly non-British parallels like Bergson or Schopenhauer, the author wants to place the energized Indian parallels, with the hope that Shaw studies, Indology and Oriental vision may all be seen in a new light, a point which future will be able to endorse.
